Alycia Laks is a clinical researcher and ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist. Prior to joining the lab she worked with stroke and traumatic brain injury survivors in a hospital setting. She is interested in translational research for the diagnosis and treatment of aphasia and alexia and in individual factors that contribute to stroke recovery. In her free time, Alycia enjoys teaching adaptive yoga, hiking, and traveling.


Trini Kelly, MA, CCC-SLP

Research Speech-Language Pathologist and Lab Manager

Trini Kelly is an ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist who is interested in neurogenic communication disorders. She previously worked at the SCORE Lab at Johns Hopkins University on projects investigating post-stroke language recovery, and is thrilled to continue similar work at Georgetown. Outside of the lab, she loves to explore the great outdoors and spend quality time with family and friends.

 

Sarah Ferguson Snider, MA, CCC-SLP

Sarah is an ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist who is interested in alexia, aphasia, and primary progressive aphasia. Since 2004, Sarah has worked as a research speech-language pathologist with Dr. Rhonda Friedman in the Center for Aphasia Research and Rehabilitation (CARR) at Georgetown University Medical Center where she designs and administers language treatments to develop evidence-based aphasia therapies. She began working with Dr. Turkeltaub in 2012 and brings her expertise to CRL in the assessment of stroke participants. Outside of the lab, Sarah enjoys riding her bike around DC and spending time with her family.


Devna Mathur, BS

Research Specialist

Education:

2023 BS, Psychology, University of Pittsburgh

Devna Mathur is a research specialist in the lab. Prior to joining the lab she was involved in two research labs where she explored various topics such as circadian misalignment in mood disorders, PIPR, and cognitive development in older adults. Her honors thesis was centered around the association between mindfulness, life satisfaction, and physical activity. 

She is interested in neuroplasticity and treatment of aphasia and various factors that can further help with recovery after stroke. In her free time, Devna enjoys binging Netflix shows or movies (mostly Marvel), cooking, and dancing! 


Karina Diaz, MS

Recruitment and Retention Coordinator

Karina Diaz is a recruitment specialist interested in the field of neurology. She intends to go to medical school to become a surgeon, which is why this field of research greatly interests her. Before her involvement with the lab, she worked as an EMT in the Bay Area, California during the pandemic. In her free time, she loves soccer, skiing, hiking, and just about anything outdoors. Fun fact: She is trilingual; fluent in English, Spanish and Chinese (Traditional).
